About the Foundation

Sonny's Kids Foundation, Inc. was formed to honor the memory of James L. "Sonny" Buchanan who had a love for life and a love for the good in all people. In Maryland, Sonny was actively involved in the Montgomery County Boys & Girls Clubs and Montgomery County Crime Solvers and was a mentor to many children in Montgomery County. He truly believed that everyone should be given an opportunity in life to succeed and have a chance to earn an education, regardless of background.

Sonny's Kids will honor Sonny's dreams by providing scholarships, grants and educational funds. Currently, scholarships have been given to several different programs, all supporting the SKF mission to help kids. Several scholarships have been given through the Boys & Girls Clubs, a special G.E.D. Center has been set up at Mark Twain School in Rockville, Maryland, and a grant has been made to continue a music program at Mt. Rogers School in White Top, Virginia.
